The Food Services Department provides a variety of lunch choices for Marlborough High School, Whitcomb Middle School and the Marlborough elementary schools. |Marlborough Public Schools Free & Reduced Lunch Program|
|Children need healthy meals to learn, and Marlborough Public Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $1.25 (grades K-12); lunch costs $2.75 (grades K-4) and $3.00 (grades 5-12).
Your child(ren) may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals (reduced price is $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch.) Children in households getting Food Stamps or TANF and most foster children can get free meals, regardless of your income. Also, children can get free-price meals if your household income is within the free limits on the Federal Income Guidelines.
Below are applications for Marlborough's Free & Reduced Lunch Program for the 2016-2017 school year. The applications include specifics about the program as well as frequently asked questions and answers. Applications are accepted year round and can be submitted over the summer for the upcoming school year. Only one application per family is needed. Please submit the form to your child's school.
|Policy Change - Food Service Charging|
|On Jan. 13, 2015 the Marlborough School Committee approved Policy 3.900 – Food Service Charging, which complies with state and federal school lunch program laws. By law, outstanding charges for school-provided meals and snacks cannot be absorbed by the food service fund; they must be paid out of a district’s general fund. This takes funding away from classroom instructional resources, putting all students at a disadvantage.
The new policy directs school officials to seek payment of outstanding lunch charges through notifications to parents/guardians of the outstanding balances. Balance thresholds for these notifications are based on grade-level and free/reduced lunch status, per the policy. Accounts with significant, unresolved balances may be forwarded to a collection agency for follow-up (see Policy 7.191 – Student Fee Policy.)
Additionally, students with accounts balances that exceed the policy threshold will be served a USDA-approved alternate meal when going through the lunch line at school. This action is NOT intended to embarrass these students, but as a way for the district to best use limited food service funds and resources. Also, please note that even when an alternate meal is served, a charge will be incurred.
By law, no school district staff member may waive a meal charge or account balance. Marlborough schools can only correct a mistake on an account or set up a plan for payment of a balance.
We recognize that many of our families have income limitations that can affect their ability to pay for school-supplied meals. As a participant in the National Student Lunch Program, Marlborough schools offers free/reduced lunch services to families who qualify. Applications for this program can be found below, or the forms can be obtained at any of the district’s schools. Completed forms should be submitted to the child’s school of attendance, and only one form per family is required. Once a family qualifies for the program, student accounts will be adjusted to reflect program participation. Past balances will remain due and payable to the program.
